Managing Your Profile

Updating Your Profile

To update your profile:

  1. Log in to your VictoriaTourismJobs.ca account, or create one by clicking the Sign Up tab on the top left corner of the Homepage navigation bar.
  2. Under My Account Details, click Edit Profile Info to manage your profile details.
  3. From here, you will be able to add, edit and select details regarding your contact information and career preferences. The more detail you provide about yourself and the type of position you are seeking, the more closely potential employers will be able to match your interests and capabilities to their organizational needs.

Public vs. Private Profiles

There are three different and independently managed privacy settings for different types of personal information associated with your profile:

  • Contact information
  • Career preferences
  • Resumes

Choose to have some or all of this information searchable by employers who have a current job posting on VictoriaTourismJobs.ca, or have your profile completely private. These settings are intended to provide you with as much flexibility as possible.

Information on your profile set as public will be viewable only by employers with an active job posting and/or subscriptions to VictoriaTourismJobs.ca. Information set as private will only be viewable by you and to those who you’ve sent this information to directly, i.e. by submitting a job application.

How do I block Employers from seeing my profile?

There are two ways of blocking an employer on VictoriaTourismJobs.ca.

Block Profile: This allows you to block an employer from viewing your profile information.

Block Search: This prevents an employer from appearing in your search results when searching for jobs or employers.

To block employers:

  1. Log in to your VictoriaTourismJobs.ca account, or create one by clicking the Sign Up tab on the top left corner of the Homepage navigation bar.
  2. Once you are logged in, click on the Find employer tab at the top of the page.
  3. You may scroll through the list of employers or enter the name of the employer you wish to block into the Keywords search field.
  4. Click the Block Profile or Block Search options next to the employer(s) you wish to block.
  5. After clicking the Block option, you will see a dialog box indicating the block is now in place. Click OK to continue.

*Your blocked employers can be accessed through your account Dashboard under My Employers. To unblock an employer, expand the My Employers box and click the Delete button beside the employer you wish to unblock.

  2. Click the Upload New Letter button on your account Dashboard under My Cover Letters.
  3. Click the Browse button and select your cover letter file.
  4. Name your cover letter and click Upload.

What is the difference between a public and a private resume?

Similar to your profile information, a public resume will be searchable by any registered employer who has an active job posting and/or subscription to VictoriaTourismJobs.ca. In contrast, a private resume will only be viewable by you, and subsequently by an employer if you submit it as part of an application in response to a job posting on VictoriaTourismJobs.ca.

Please note: It is possible to set your resume as public while having a private profile (your contact information and career preferences). In this situation, a public resume allows employers to see any and all contact information that is available on your resume, but does not allow them to see information unless it is part of your resume. If you would truly like to remain anonymous, you will need to ensure your resume is private.

Why would I want to make my resume public?

While some job seekers prefer to maintain a private profile and only share personal information in response to specific job postings, others will find the most benefit from having their resume and profile information public. The primary reason is that this provides the opportunity for employers to find you rather than you having to do all the searching. Public resumes offer exposure as potential employers seek out those with skills like yours.
